Thanks to the Morton Chamber of Commerce, Darin LaHood met with a group this morning to discuss today’s most important issues. Also present at the meeting was Maggie Sheely (msheely@uschamber.com) of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Matthias Beier, President & CEO of the European American Investment Council. With Mr. Beier was Werner Beermann and Aryan Zandieh also from Germany.
The Congressman discussed the importance of tax reform and an associated import tax for firms wishing to produce offshore and sell in the U.S.
Ron Rainson commented on the difficulties Illinois was having and suggested that, perhaps with help from the federal government, Illinois could build and boast of a skilled workforce (please see www.vo-tech.us). The Congressman pointed out that this could be accomplished through our very fine community college system. Our community colleges are outstanding. Rainson suggested that Illinois veterans need federal support since the state can no longer fund their first two years of education.
Maggie Sheely presented the Congressman with the annual Chamber award for the best voting record in Congress. Matthias described the work of his organization and Rainson commented that he had identified over 100 firms in the Peoria area with foreign ownership.
